In its native environment, the Monstera grows beneath a canopy of large trees and the glossy dark green leaves can grow up to even 3 feet in size. Its perforations or leaf holes are called fenestrations. They maximize the ability to capture sunlight and at the same time allow excess rainwater to pass through, limiting the damage to itself.

• Find a good balance of sun and shade for me.
• Require a few hours of sunlight a day, but too much sunlight scorches my leaves whereas low light levels will not allow my characteristic holes to develop.
• Water me evenly about once a week; ensure the soil is fairly dry before watering.
• Love a fairly humid environment to grow. Misting my leaves regularly boosts humidity.
• When grown indoors, avoid re-potting too often to curb growth.
• My leaves are toxic if ingested, so I am best kept away from pets and young kids.
